In my first year at Live Oak, we introduced a new set of leadership language and principles called ‘People First’ – which are designed to promote the behaviors that create the conditions for our employees to be motivated. The language is centered on three principles of motivation, which research shows most of us share at work. They are purpose, autonomy, and mastery, which manifest in our guidance for leaders: Trust Me, Teach Me, and Inspire Me.
